2017 “O” Antiphons concert, and new singers!

Here we are at the end of 2017 – already!

We are happy and grateful to welcome some new singers to the group this season: Ellen Barton, Thom Barthlemess, Naomi deVries Pomerantz, and Peter Venable. And we’re grateful that throughout the ups and downs that are simply part of life, we’ve been able to continue to come together as a group to connect with each other and make music, and feel the truly healing power that this can bring. But it’s not the same without an opportunity to share the music with others, and try to give something through that. On that note…

We hope you’ll join us as we present our fourth annual “O” Antiphons concert, featuring sacred chant and choral works to mark the conclusion of the Advent season. Composed in the sixth or seventh century, the “O” Antiphons are used in vespers and the Masses for December 17-23. The “O” Antiphons refer to the prophecy of Isaiah of the coming of the Messiah.

Other works will feature composers Thomas Tallis, John Stevens, Palestrina, Charles Stanford, Arvo Pärt, Ola Gjeilo and Icelandic composer Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson. We’ll be singing on December 23 at 7:30 pm, at First Congregational Church on 2401 Cornwall Avenue in Bellingham. We want to create and share with you something of warmth, something of peace and reflection – we’re all in need of this no matter the time of year.

This is a free event and donations will be accepted to benefit Northwest Youth Services.

Be sure to sign up to our mailing list if you’d like to receive news of future events. We wish you and yours love.
